The Competition

The Competition

The Guthman Musical Instrument Competition is the only competition of its kind — an event that identifies the newest and greatest ideas in music. Every year, we invite musical inventors from around the world to share their creations and ideas about the future of music.

The Guardian called the competition "The Pulitzer of the New Instrument World," and The New York Times described it as having a "special, otherworldly sound that you can feel permeating your soul", which has become the hallmark of the competition. Fast Company explained how Guthman's "futuristic instruments will change how we make music," and Atlanta Magazine suggested that "at the Guthman Competition, innovative instruments just might predict the future of music."

Ten finalists are invited to Georgia Tech in March to meet with a panel of judges and participate in a concert celebrating their achievements. At the end of the concert, the judges will announce the winners of the competition and attendees vote for a finalist to win the People's Choice award.
